NICOLE BURGESS

MACP, MTA, RCC

Whether you are feeling like nothing in life is going the way it should, are struggling with worries and sadness or simply trying to make sense of the relationships around you, counselling is an effective means to healing.  My clients tell me they want to feel hope and happiness for their future, clarity in their lives and growth as individuals.

Through a caring, respectful and collaborative relationship we will work together to rediscover and develop strengths and resiliencies as you work towards your goals. I hold a strong belief in our innate wholeness as individuals. It is only the twists and turns of life’s path that sometimes makes this wholeness difficult to see.

MY EXPERIENCE

Over the past 20 years I have worked in the field of counselling and music therapy. This has provided me experience working in end of life care, ageing and life transitions, supporting professional and family caregivers, trauma and women facing violence.

MY Education and training

I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and am a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. In addition, I am an accredited music therapist with the Canadian Music Therapy Association.  I continue to attend conferences, seminars and other learning opportunities in order to keep up to date in my knowledge and practice.

MY Approach

I use a strength-based, trauma informed approach. I am trained in and draw from several therapeutic practices including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, Gottman Method, Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), mindfulness, and the creative arts.  Regardless of the therapeutic practice, I work to get to know you, to help you better understand your thoughts and feelings and work towards healing and growth.

I am a service provider for First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) and ICBC.

I love living in the Comox Valley with my husband and two children. When not at work, you will find me spending time in nature, reading, camping and spending time with my family.

I work with children (10 years and older), Teens, Adults and Couples facing challenges related to:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Stress

  • Coping skills and feeling ‘stuck’

  • Grief and loss

  • Motor vehicle accidents

  • Trauma

  • Interpersonal violence/Domestic abuse

  • Caregiving and caregiver burnout

  • Family and life transitions

  • Physical health issues and serious illness

  • Couples and relationships
